Sneakers Rise to Popularity
Now there are many models and collaborations that have helped the rise in the sneaker industry. It is estimated that as of now in 2021, the sneaker industry is worth 79 billion dollars. The birth of sneaker collecting, subsequently creating the sneakerhead culture in the United States, came in the 1980s and can be attributed to one major cause. That one major cause is basketball, specifically the emergence of Michael Jordan, and his legendary Air Jordan line of shoes that were origionally released in 1985.
